The Ultimate Solution for Tilt-up Panel Lifting Design

In tutorial 2, we will focus on explaining how to use FEA to analyze complex panels. The panel shape illustrates as Fig1.

STEP 1 Start TiltMAX.
Click on window Start button. Select Program and then TiltMAX.
Reply the dialog box, use imperial system.

STEP 2 Open tutorial2.til file
Select File\Open from main menu, go to the set up directory of the software, select tutorial2.til, click Open.

STEP 3 Check design data
Select Analyze\Check from main menu. (It will not subtract panel credit in this tutorial.)

STEP 4 Tilt-up Analyze
Select Analyse\Tilt-up analyze (beam model).

View
program interface.

STEP 5 Save the data to ANSYS
Select File\Save to ANSYS Analyze File from main menu or click menu bar . Browse your local directory, type in file name: tutorial2.ans.

STEP 6 Start ANSYS
Click on the window Start button. Select Program and then ANSYS.

STEP 7 Import file to ANSYS
Select File\Read Input From in main menu of ANSYS. Select tutorial2.ans, press OK. Click GMT from the ANSYS Toolbar, the panel shape is imported and shown on the screen. The mesh level is set to level3 in this tutorial.

STEP 8 FEA analysis
Press TILTUP from the ANSYS Toolbar, FEA analysis will finish in seconds.

STEP 9 Query results
Press BOT-MY from the ANSYS Toolbar, a Multi-Prompt for Variables window will prompt up, as shown below.

Fig 1.

  • When using the default variables, the bending moment contour will display the bending moment between cracking and maximum value, which is convenient for designers to know where he should put extra reinforcement in. As shown on MYBOT.

  • When changing the Thk1=0, the bending moment contour displays the bending moment between 0 and maximum values as shown on the second MYBOT.

Similarly, you can press BOT-MX, TOP-MY, TOP-MX from the ANSYS Toolbar to get the bending moment contours as shown below.
